Melody Grand Prix / Eurovision and "Fairytale" were fun. But at the same time, I was working on something else, something completely different, something that could be about us all. About bullying, about not fitting in. About magical places and mysterious creatures that one can choose to believe in or not. But most of all about friendship.

"Many children have experienced how it feels like to be lonely, be frozen out of the gang or - worst of all - just tobe ignored. I remember back to my own childhood and how much I wanted to be understood. I still feel a bit like this as an adult. The more people I have around me, the more lonely I can feel. Then I appreciate the few friends I have, who know me as Alexander from Bakkegårdsveien 6.

Writing the story of Trolle has been important to me. It is important to tell children that they are not alone in feeling different. That they must not stop believing in good friendships, even if it can take a long time.

To find a friend might even take longer than publishing a book. Through five years of searching for a company that would publish both the book and the music, I have been frustrated, discouraged and sad. Right until Cappelen Damm embraced the project wholeheartedly.

"Alva, a young and brave girl, goes into the darkest forests to cheer up Trolle, becoming his only friend. She convinces the others in the village that Trolle is not as dangerous as everyone thinks. They head out for adventures together and thanks to their friendship, they overcome the darkest magic."

When the book was published in three editions and got fantastic reviews, I continued to work on the musical. Here I was lucky and got Norway's most exciting director, Jostein Kirkeby-Garstad to develop the script. It took about as many years to put an agreement with a theater in place, but with Jostein by my side, it was fun to wait!

Now, ten years after I started writing the story and the music, it's finally the premiere in the amazing Kilden in Kristiansand. Who knows, it could have taken another ten years, but I like to believe, I wouldn't given up anyway: The most important is that things take time, but are usually worth it.

If it takes such a long time to develop a book, an album, a musical - how long does it take to develop a friendship? One week? One year? A lifetime? Or is it enough with "hello, what's your name"?

I hope kids of all ages will be inspired by the musical, find a friend to encourage and get to know - and head out for adventures together.

"A Melody Grand Prix/Eurovízió és a "Fairytale" jó szórakozás volt. Mindeközben viszont valami máson dolgoztam, valami teljesen más dolgon, olyasmin, ami mindannyiunkról szólhat. A  csoporton belüli zaklatásról, a be nem illeszkedésről. Varázslatos helyekről és titokzatos lényekről, akikről mindenki eldöntheti, hisz-e bennük vagy sem. De leginkább a barátságról.

Sok gyerek megtapasztalta, milyen érzés magányosnak, kirekesztettnek lenni a csapatból, vagy - ami a legrosszabb - azt átélni, hogy egyszerűen figyelmen kívül hagynak. Emlékszem a gyerekkoromból, hogy mennyire szerettem volna, hogy megértsenek. És kicsit most is, felnőttként is ezt érzem. Minél több ember van körülöttem, annál magányosabbnak tudom érezni magam. És akkor aztán nagyon tudom értékelni azt a néhány barátomat, akik Alexanderként ismernek engem, a Bakkegårdsveien 6-ból.

Sokat jelentett számomra megírni a Trolle-mesét. Fontos számomra, hogy elmondjam a gyerekeknek, hogy nincsenek egyedül akkor sem, ha különböznek egymástól. Hogy ne veszítsék el a hitüket, hogy jó barátokra lelnek, még ha ez sokáig tarthat is.

Igazi barátot találni még tovább tarthat, mint kiadni egy könyvet. Az alatt az öt év alatt, amíg olyan kiadót kerestem, aki a könyvet és a zenét is megjelentetné, csalódott, csüggedt és szomorú voltam. Egészen addig, amíg a Cappelen Damm teljes szívvel fel nem karolta a projektet.

"Alva, egy fiatal és bátor lány, aki a legsötétebb erdőkbe is bemerészkedik, hogy felvidítsa Trolle-t, és az egyetlen barátja legyen. Meggyőzi a többieket a faluban, hogy Trolle nem olyan veszélyes, mint ahogy mindenki gondolja. Együtt indulnak kalandokra, és a barátságuknak köszönhetően legyőzik a legsötétebb varázslatot is."

Miután a könyv három kiadásban megjelent és fantasztikusan jó kritikákat kapott, folytattam a munkát a musicalen. Ebben szerencsém volt, és Norvégia legkreatívabb rendezője, Jostein Kirkeby-Garstad kapta a forgatókönyv megírásának feladatát. Közel ugyanannyi időbe telt megegyezni a színházzal, de Jostein-nal az oldalamon még várni is szórakozás volt!

Most, tíz évvel azután, hogy elkezdtem írni a történetet és a zenét, végre a elérkezett a premier ideje a fantasztikus Kildenben, Kristiansandban. Ki tudja, akár újabb tíz évbe is beletelhetett volna, de szeretem azt hinni magamról, hogy nem adtam volna fel: A legfontosabb, hogy a dolgok időbe telnek, de rendszerint megéri várni rájuk.

Ha ilyen hosszú időbe telik létrehozni egy könyvet, egy lemezt, egy musicalt - mennyi ideig tart egy igazi barátságot kialakítani? Egy hét? Egy év? Egy egész élet? Vagy csak annyi, hogy "hello, hogy hívnak?"

Remélem, hogy a musical sok gyereket inspirál majd minden korosztályból arra, hogy ismerkedjenek és olyan barátokra leljenek, akik bátorítják őket és együtt indulhatnak kalandokra.
