ALEXANDER RYBAK PLAYS OLE BULL, THE FAMOUS NORWEGIAN VIOLINIST IN THE SOOT-SPELET THEATRE PLAY 2015-2021
The year 2019 was the 5-year-anniversary season
Alexander Rybak, the record winner of the Eurovision Song Contest feels a lot in common with the biggest Norwegian violinist and theater founder of all time, Ole Bull (1810-1880).
So he thinks he has got a great chance for impersonating his big ancestor, already for the fifth time in a row from 2015, in the theatre play “Soot-Spelet” launched in the summer of 2015 and has become one of Norway’s annual historical plays, performed outdoors in the unique canal amphitheatre in Ørje, Norway.

The theatre play is about the genial canal builder Engebret Soot, and it was Alexander’s good friend Dennis Storhøi, who played the main role from 2015 to 2017.
Alexander is mostly accompanying the story by his violin play from the background, but he also appears in a few scenes in person.
Ole Bull was the greatest Norwegian violinist, composer and theater founder, a contemporary of Engebret Soot, the canal builder.
So another genius. According to Robert Schumann, he was on a level with Niccolò Paganini for the speed and clarity of his playing, Bull was also a friend of the Hungarian Ferenc Liszt and played with him on several occasions.
One of the two great mens' legendary meetings is showed in the play, when Engebret Soot, after have missed Bull's concert, goes to the hotel where Ole Bull stayed, woke him up and demanded him to play for him in the middle of the night.

From 2016 on, Alexander's repertoire has been changed, and he got the chance to play Monti-chardash at the end of this scene:
And through several years, he also played "Fairytale". In 2017, in a wedding dance scene:
In the other years, he played "Hungarian Suite" and "Monti-chardash" in the same scene.

Before the premiere in 2015, the three main characters were guests in the Norwegian morning show “God Morgen Norge”, TV2 (with English and Hungarian subtitles)
Alexander also said in this interview about his role as Ole Bull that
"the role itself I have dreamt about for long. He was a very eccentric person. He is my idol in many ways. At least musically."

In 2010, Norway celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ole Bull. In the radio show “Kammertjenerne” on NRK P2, they draw some parallels between Alexander and the famous Norwegian violinist Ole Bull.
